Peter North, Coventry University

Biography

I started working at Coventry University in February 2009 as a Network Engineer within the network Services team and am currently part of the network development team where our focus is network planning, design, innovation and introduction of new services. Before working at the University I was a network engineer and then technical team leader for a virtual network operator supporting the WAN environment of customers mostly in the retail and manufacturing sector. I currently hold CCNP, CCDP and CCNA wireless certifications and in May 2012 passed the CCIE Routing & Switching written exam.

Abstract

Improve the Student Experience of Internet Services in Student Accommodation

This presentation will explore the challenges faced by Coventry University in provisioning adequate Internet service to university owned student houses located sporadically around Coventry. We will discuss the problems faced by students, which led to the creation of the project to improve the service. We will look at the solution provided from planning through implementation and examine its capabilities, vulnerabilities and its advantages. We will also talk about some of the issues faced supporting the new service and how we have dealt with them.
